The lecture takes place in the cafeteria at Lians, Saturday, September 20 at 1:00 PM (meet at the main entrance).
Krister Røhme Kopala, 34, grew up in Tromsø and now lives on the west coast of Norway, in Luster. Nature and adventure have always been central in his life, and from a young age he spent countless hours outdoors in winter—most often with a snowboard under his arm.
Over the years, Kopala has become one of the leading athletes in his field and is internationally recognized for riding some of the steepest and most challenging mountain faces in the world. In addition to his snowboarding career, he works as a power line technician—a job that gives him both physical activity and the flexibility to balance work with his passion for the mountains.
Kopala is also known for his openness about past struggles with substance abuse, and how snowboarding became a positive driving force in his life. He has taken part in several film projects, including his own film “The White Giant”, which documents his attempt to ride the steepest lines of Jiehkkevárri in Lyngen.
He also runs his own Kopeshow on YouTube, and you may have seen him on the NRK series Eksponert.
